The Power of AR for MRO
On Wednesday, April 9, Scope AR and FTAI Aviation were proud to host a shared Innovation Happy Hour event at MRO Americas 2025 in Atlanta Georgia to demonstrate their collaboration integrating Augmented Reality instructions into the workflow of FTA Aviation's innovative Maintenance, Repair and Exchange (MRE) Program.
The AR solution (WorkLink) provides work instructions for engine inspection and assembly though a mobile-accessible tool. With intuitive visuals and connectivity, the platform helps remove the ambiguity of performing maintenance, improve quality, and reduce turnaround time. Based on their work over the last two years, the team expects the following immediate benefits of AR introduction:
To evaluate the improved efficiency when using augmented reality to inspect gas turbine engines, FTAI performed a time trail with entry level technicians who were unfamiliar with the inspection process. Based on this time trial, it was determined that the visual inspections using the Scope AR WorkLink method was significantly faster than FTAI's current standard.
FTAI plans to extend the augmented reality platform to cover more engine variants. The implementation, developed out of Montreal, is also expected to be rolled out to the other FTAI overhaul facilities in Miami and eventually Rome.
"Partnering with FTAI Aviation has showcased the real-world power of Scope AR's technology," said Scott Montgomerie, CEO of Scope AR. "By streamlining complex maintenance workflows and enabling real-time knowledge transfer across teams, we're not just improving efficiency — we're helping redefine how aviation MRO operates in the digital age."
Scope AR's WorkLink is delivering exceptional ROI for top Aviation, MRO, Aerospace, and Defense organizations worldwide, bringing game-changing results by boosting efficiency, accuracy, and performance. In the MRO space we have shown a consistent 30-40% reduction in task times alongside zero recorded errors for AR supported work, and over 95% favorability among MRO technicians directly working with WorkLink.
At the show the Scope AR team was able to show and support a number of key applications for the technology, engaging a variety of organizations from major manufacturers and MRO organizations through to A&P training facilities and airlines. As expected, there was significant excitement across the board for the improvements shown in AR supported task cards, inspections and remote supported troubleshooting.
